Social Services / Personal Care Services

Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center’s (GLIIHC) Community Support specialist Alicia Terry has two words of advice for community members in need of support: “Just Ask.”

“I think a lot of times people are embarrassed to come here and ask for help,” Terry said. “I can’t emphasize enough that everything here is confidential.”

Terry has helped countless people from our community. She recalled a client, who was a victim of domestic violence, that came to GLIIHC for help.

“She was crying and had been beaten up. We were able to work with another community agency that helped her find a place to live,” Terry said. “We helped her with dishes, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, diapers and other items for her new home.”

“I gave her help to get away and she got away,” Terry said. “To see her keeping going forward…” she said, leaving the sentence unfinished. “I love it.”Our behavioral health and social services mission is to meet the emotional and mental health needs of Urban Indians and loved ones with respect to sensitivity to their culture.
